Al-Mal Newspaper – Cairo Solar Prepares to Secure 10 Solar Power Stations with a Capacity of 500 kW – May 30, 2017

Cairo Solar is aiming to secure the implementation of 10 solar power stations in the coming period as part of its expansion plans and to achieve its targets for the current year, which include executing solar projects with a total capacity of 2.5 MW.

Hatem Tawfik, the company’s Chief Commercial Officer, told Al-Mal that the company is preparing to compete for around 10 solar stations, each with a capacity of 50 kW, totaling approximately 500 kW.

He added that the cost of a single station will not be less than EGP 600,000, with a total investment of EGP 6 million. The projects will be implemented using photovoltaic cells, which convert solar energy into electricity through solar panels. Locally manufactured batteries will be used, while solar cells will be imported from China.

He pointed out that the company's current clients are mainly divided into two categories:

  1. Those with high energy consumption who fall into the highest pricing tier and are charged high rates, prompting them to install solar stations to cover their own consumption.
  2. Those who own land or projects in desert areas not connected to the national grid, seeking to replace diesel and gasoline with solar energy.

Tawfik also revealed that the planned stations will be owned by land reclamation companies involved in the 1.5 million feddan project in various governorates. He noted that there is strong demand from clients for such projects.

Currently, the company is working on establishing solar-powered irrigation stations for agricultural land and pumps, particularly in Alamein, as part of the 1.5 million feddan project under the Egyptian Countryside Development Company. The cost of this type of solar station is around EGP 800,000 for irrigation without the pump.

He added that his company will complete two additional stations in the coming days, each with a capacity of approximately 50 kW, using photovoltaic technology. Batteries will also be installed to store the energy generated by these stations.

The total cost of these two stations is around EGP 1 million, with clients financing the projects. The stations have been implemented using photovoltaic cells. Additionally, the company plans to compete for projects to illuminate 1,000 government buildings with solar energy and is currently in negotiations to secure many of them. Cairo Solar is also looking to participate in projects under the Shamsak Ya Masr initiative.

Cairo Solar was founded through a partnership between:

  • Egyptian Consulting Engineers (ECG), chaired by Amr Allouba.
  • EMC, a company specializing in electrical contracting projects.
  • Ramses Atiya Holding Group.
